For most dogs to be trained, usually there will be a training collar to put your dogs on leash but do remember that for a play dog, like the shih tzu that you have, there is no point putting a leash around them.

Why?

Because their neck muscles are too weak!

Clarification:

Normal collar and training collars are different. Training collars are slight thicker while your normal collar are smaller and usually soft.
