Make Money Blogging Membership Site

First up, my collaboration project with one of the up and coming blogging expert John Yeo is almost done. Project BlogCashMentor is finally up and running.  He is the man for blogging and it has been a great learning experience collaborating with him on this membership site.  I am definitely not the marketing and blogging guy but in terms of technical skills, and the technical needs of this site, it has been a challenging experience.

Using Amember to power up the membership site has shown me one very important thing on the Internet Marketing scene.  And coming from a guy who used to work in programming, documentation of how to change the needs of these software is bad.  No offense to these software creators from Amember, DLGuard and affiliate-prophet but after testing these software, the documentation provided is amazingly “not helpful”.

Luckily, their helpdesk and forum are very responsive, especially amember and dlguard.  Fast and responsive, and Amember comes out TOPS!

Amember Membership Software

For Amember, these are the things I am doing using the software for:

1 – Creating a membership script and setting the recurring payment from members on a monthly basis.

2 – Using the incremental plugin to slowly show contents for each new month only after they have paid subscription.

3 – Control the One time offer bonus so that only those who have paid the OTO can see the download link.

4 – Control the number of days and the number of times each member can download the bonuses.

5 – Recurring Payment is via paypal

6 – Use amember affiliate system to get affiliates and track their sales (It cannot pay affiliates for you but it can generate a thing call a mass pay which can be uploaded into paypal to pay your affiliates using that list)

DLGuard Software

For DLguard, the project I did was to hide the download link of your digital products.  With all the hacking these days, DLGuard is useful for hiding the real link of your digital products and you can actually limit the number of times your customer can download from the product link.  Dlguard can also be use for creating membership site but I have not tried it yet.

Personal Web Design Business

Recently I accepted a project to customize a zen-cart powered shopping cart website and I have to say that for such a free software, it was amazingly powerful.  And there are a lot of support from the creators and users of this software.  It was another learning curve for me to customize their templates and requirements but damn, it is powerful.

Zen Cart Software:

This is a free software for anyone who is interested in setting up a shopping cart website.  Personally, I think they have a very good forum and some good plugins to use.  Go download it at their website here => zen-cart

Clickbank Progress:

For some strange reasons, I only had time in June to manage some blog post and articles for my love and health niche, and it is nicely moving up to $200 for this July.  Weird but nice.  I like such things because I seriously have limited time for clickbank now.

Personal Project:

If you look to the right of this blog, you can see this project call CBproj.  Just for fun, I created a small and damn simple app to send you an email immediately if you made an affiliate sale from clickbank.  If you would like to test it, just sign up for it on the right.  I am not releasing it yet.  Creating some videos on how to use the app and then i will release it.

As some of you know, I am turning to IM full time on Monday 01-September-2008.  My last day on the job is actually Friday 29th August 2008.  So I will rest 2 days during the weekends and next monday, it sounds like a good day to start my journey from ground zero.

Anyway, I will write down my experiences here starting from Day 1 to Day 30. Let’s see how i can apply Patric’s methods to boost my earnings for September 2008.

So far, my IM earnings for August is below:

Earnings from Clickbank is US$84.93

Earnings from PayPal is US$167.5

Earnings from ebay is US$5.84

Total Earnings: US$258.27

The biggest problem is I cannot withdraw money from ebay and clickbank because the amount is too low for me staying in Singapore.  So the target will be to increase my income from clickbank and paypal account to $2k each.  And starting from September to December (4 months), lets see how i can increase to such an amount.

Anyway, I have a few part time jobs so I can still have some money for expenses but ultimately, I have burn the bridge of my stable monthly income to force myself to succeed in Internet marketing.  Some people say why not wait until you get a stable IM income before you become full time, but my job as a programmer is taking up so much of my energy and time that I barely have any strength to do IM.  So it is now or not.  The journey starts 1st September 2008.

History:

I am just at an exploring stage, trying to hit 200 subscribers. From Sep 07 till now, my monthly sales is around $50 and just last month, it almost hit $100. The target will be to bring in $500 per month from just this one website. It started out as a opt-in cum review page in sep 07, and became just a review page from oct 07 to mid jan 08, and it became a sole landing page to capture subscribers since then.

I have submitted around 100 articles for the health niche already. And below are my findings as well as advise.

Strategy Traffic Research:

If you are intending to attack the health market niche, I can offer some advise through my tracking of the traffic patterns. I will be writing this randomly.

1 -If you are using articles, target only ezinearticles.com as it approves your articles within hours of submitting during their office hours. But they do not approve any articles during the weekends.

2 – Do not bother submitting with any other article directories at the moment. I have tried any article directories and since tuesday, 5 of the article directories i submitted have not even approve any articles. Pathetic.

3 – Always try to submit your articles between monday to wednesday. Forget about traffic on thursday to sundays. The traffic will still come but it is not a lot. I think that as the weekend approaches, people want to enjoy going out, eating great food and no one wants to think about weight loss until the end of the week. This is when they start to find weight loss solutions and therefore, for the first 3 days of the week, I will tend to see a surge in traffic.

4 – The beginning week of the month is when a sale is mostly likely to occur. If you miss this window, then mostly likely you will have to wait till the end of the month to see another sale. Reasons could be the same as point 3.

5 – When writing your keywords, always place your keywords in the title of the article, the first sentence of your opening paragraph, the first sentence in your conclusion and one more time to have the keywords appear in the body of the article.

6 – If you are aiming your keywords, use the quotes “keywords” when checking your competition as well as check if there is any squidoo lens or ezine articles ranking on the first page of googles. If there is, then if you are submitting to ezinearticles, then your chances of your articles appearing on the first page of googles can be very high as well. So far, this method has produced many first page rankings for my ezine articles.

7 – Contrary to what many people say about not writing the same keywords twice for 2 different articles, if you are just submitting to just ezinearticles, then you better keep writing articles that targets your keywords. This is because there will always be competitors who will want the same keywords and your articles will most likely get kicked off and being replaced by his.

8 – Social bookmark your articles as well. Get your friends to vote, bookmark your articles to give your articles more weight to stay on the first page of googles.

9 – To optimally achieve 100 visitors, the best will be to submit at least 5 articles per day. I manage to garner 500 visitors in total for 7 days by submitting 20 articles from monday to thursday. Since ezinearticles do not approve any during the weekends, I had no way to increase more traffic.

10 – It works best to tell everyone you have a free gift at your website when writing your bio box. I made several test on different bio box description but best is still to tell readers you have free gift.

11 – If you are collecting opt-ins, due to the need to get double confirmation from subscribers, put a link to your affiliate product so that when they are on the sent to the second page of your landing page that requires them to confirm their email, place your affiliate link there and make it enticing to them to click on it.

Remarks for point 11:

Usually, if a person is willing to click on your bio box to go to your landing page and sign up as well, they are already consider targeted customers. And if they are still willing to click on the affiliate link after signing up, the chance of them buying are very high. My statistics shows me that for every 33 readers who click on this link, 1 will definitely buy. So far, it has been pretty accurate.

So for now, if i can get more traffic, I will provide more findings and tips. Hope you find value in this post compared to my other daily posts. Give me any comments if you like or do not like what I have written.

I found this particular newsletter under the Health category with the Title “Which lenses fit your lifestyle?“. It details on what kind of lenses are suitable for each individual person and the different styles of lenses to tailor to your individual needs. And then I decided to check out the Pets category and this very interesting title caught my eye => “Gorgeous Guineas: Piggy Tips – Toothpaste for Piggies?!“. Though I did not read the full story, I found the title is enough to invoke my curiosity.  I never realized that piggies need toothpaste too! So if you have a guinea pig at home, do give this article a good read (Maybe give your piggy to read too   ).

This iContactCommunity seems to be interesting because it seems like another avenue for internet marketers to explore. Maybe we can just set out to find more and maybe integrate our products into this website and monitor the traffic and sales can you get from iContactCommunity.

One of the sales that was interesting was Ewen Chia’s Newbie Cash Machine which I did a review page on http://www.businesspeanuts.com/recommends/newbiescashmachine.html

This was my first time doing a review page to recommend this Ewen Chia’s Newbie Cash Machine Review. I followed the techniques in the book and I wrote an article and submitted to ezinearticles.com in June and within 2 weeks I made 2 sales.

And as this was my first website, I got lazy, and as time goes by, totally forgot about this webpage. Then suddenly, I got a sale from this webpage. I kept laughing because I finally believe what the experts say is true. You can earn money by writing articles, even in years to go. In my case, it took 5 months.

And in my other niche (not internet marketing product), I manage to sell another product recently. Even though I was happy to get another sale, my conversion rate is pretty bad.

I have a total of 450 visitors in a month but got only 1 sale so there are still plenty of things to tweak to improve sales. Anyway article writing is great! Free traffic and so far, I only submit my articles to ezinearticles.com. And most of my articles appear on the first pages of googles for those long tail keywords (finally understand how to optimize keywords in articles).

Some statistics:
In September, I wrote 13 article: brought in about 100 visitors.

In October, I increase the number of articles to 35 (got a few friends to help me as well): 350 visitors.

Anyway, for the month of October, I just realized this today. This first blog of mine, http://www.businesspeanuts.com , just got a page rank of 2. And even though I stopped updating as frequently like the past. And the funniest part, another niche I am doing, http://www.appleiphoneforxmas.com , got a page rank of 1. Why is it funny? Because I only have a few entries in http://www.appleiphoneforxmas.com but I did SEO so that it can rank for keywords. And I barely did much updating as well.

The more efforts put in, the more articles written, and more web pages I setup, the mystery of earning money on the internet begins to slowly reveals itself. Hannie from http://platinum-cash.blogspot.com/ really is my inspiration and Travis from http://www.bummarketingmethod.com is truly the king of bum marketing. Learn so much from his newsletters.

I started from 1st September until 28th September. My progress has been very slow and on the losing end of advertising but I really learn a great deal on using google analytics, statcounter.com and getresponse email campaigns. Anyway I am documenting down my results. See if anyone is interested.

Based on this statistics:
Since I can get a total visit of 357 people to my website, and get 115 people to click on sale page to product a sale of $23.05 in one month, target will be to get at least 100 to 200 people a day, instead of one month. Most likely it will take a total of 115 people in-order for me to make 1 sale.

Time to relook at the strategies for traffic.
- To improve campaign on Adwords
- To write more articles using long-tail keywords
- Produce my own free report or a $7 report

Hopefully I can offer more good news on my earnings after these changes.

It’s been a while since I last update again.  As I have mentioned previously, I have been embarking on a road to Adwords.  I have been setting my mind to just use PPC and article marketing to set up my affiliate marketing campaigns.  I have to admit that I have yet to made any sales from this new campaign.  I have been exploring and figuring alot of data in order to find that special success formula.

I have to thank Hannie from  http://platinum-cash.blogspot.com/ to give me support as well as her success stories.  Inspirational to push more and not to give up easily.  I would also like to thank the folks at wealthyaffiliate.com, especially the founders, kyle and carson, for providing support.

I did not want to start updating my blog until the 20th of September or at least I have some results in my internet marketing adventure. I have been frustrated since I have a blog writing about internet marketing and telling people how to make money, I want to first justify that my efforts will prove results first.

First Sale From Businesspeanuts Group Effort

I am proud to say that another little project with the businesspeanuts group has produced our first sales from a little niche via article marketing. Bum marketing is the way to go. With more people involved in each project, we can reduce our efforts and learn together as well. We will need to focus more and start producing sales for more projects as well but it is a good start. To the businesspeanuts group, great start and let’s get more sales rolling in. Got so much to learn but it is good.

Anyway, what triggered me to start this post, after almost a month without updating is this video from youtube below. This video is made by Eben Pagan. He goes by the pen name, David Angelo, with his 20-million dollars a year website, doubleyourdating.com.

He is the proven man. So far, we have heard from many gurus and the internet marketing products that guarantees you earning a lot of money. But we do not know what kind of markets they are in except for their internet marketing products.

But this guy is the real deal. He has proven his niche is making millions of dollars and not just someone who instructs you how to start internet marketing. I first got to know about Eben from Yanik Silver’s materials. Yanik took ages to get Eben Pagan to reveal his $20 million dollars secrets in one of Yanik’s underground internet sessions.

He is truly amazing and he has produced 3 fantastic videos on marketing and psychology on online customers. He has produced these videos for his latest venture into one of his programs. I do not have any affiliate links but the videos have just so much value in it. It is not just the same old internet marketing but great marketing tips and change of mindset.

So take out your pen and start writing down tips. Let me reveal one of my favourite tips he gave in this video is this => “Give $100 value to a million people and ask for $10 in return.”

If you have the same feeling, you are not alone. This occurs to most of us.

Often you can hear many people, who just started out as internet marketer, experience problems like where to find information online, not enough knowledge of their chosen niche, etc, etc. People will tell you to use googles and find websites, or buy PLR products, or search for free books in the public domains.

Well, let me share a bit of my experience. I am a IT guy who DOES NOT Like to do things online. When I read, I prefer to print out to read. Similarly, if i need information, I will always drop by the libraries. For those who live in Singapore, there is a library in almost every few locations. I love it when I have piles and piles of books for me to view through.

So if you ever encounter problems of writing, just drop by to your nearest library. There are so many ideas in so many books, and the best part, there is no cost incurred at all.

But for new bloggers, you may not really know where to keep getting new information to learn or get inspiration for your next post.

Why consider exploring Google itself. There are so many functions in googles that we barely make use of. Whenever you go to the google main page, click on the About Google link. The page that loads contains so many tools that you can use to gain knowledge. You can use Google trends to find the search volume by people, you can also read the google news as well as use Google Adwords tool to find keywords.

But the one favourite of mine is the Google Alerts. You can request Google to send you a daily report of all the websites that contains the keywords you specify. Personally, I have subscribe to 4 keywords and everyday I will receive 4 daily reports for each different keyword that I specify. The email will show the different websites and blogs that contains the keywords and their latest posts.

So try it out. Another no excuse on nothing to write method.

Next up is the cool up coming show on August 15th, 2007. It is the next internet millionaire show. The short trailer seems pretty cool, and maybe we can learn some techniques of how they go about running their business. It should be interesting to see a millionaire in the making as well as pick up some free tips. Joel Comm, the internet guru who is an adsense expert, wrote the best selling amazon and new york times best seller, The Adsense Code, is the host and executive producer of the show. I was reading about his profile and he was even interviewed by CNNMoney.com Business 2.0. Amazing. Imagine yourself enjoying the sandy beaches in thailand, or travelling around europe and yet you can earn money using your laptop. Talk about the ideal lifestyle of an internet marketer. He just manage to reach his USD$10k a month target and guess what, he is only 35 at the moment.

It has been a while since I have updated my blogs. Gone were the days that I could keep blogging about trying to make money online. I was always feeling uncomfortable when I first started writing blogs about my journey to make money online. The more I wrote, the more frustrated I become as I still do not really know how to get money coming in.

And after oneday, things started to change for the better. Though I was still doing offline methods, I was able to get friends to get new domain web host under me and I finally broke the deadlock and got my first sale in clickbank as well. The happiest moment was when I got my check from bluehost. Previously I blog about my first check but due to some stupid mistakes I made, all my august blog posts are gone. Anyway I just want to share this best moment here.

Already cash the check but still waiting for the money to be transferred to me. I just talk to bluehost and they could actually transfer the money to paypal so it is better for fellow internet marketers who are staying outside of the US.

Previously, I stated that I wanted to earn $1000 from the affiliate marketing for the month of August. I have a few projects in the pipeline and but somehow, the target of $1000 for the month of August seems like a mile away. Never mind, I will keep pumping out projects, modifying and keep learning all the way. Most important is that there must be action in order to get a reaction.

Anyway, I have just recently setup a new blog that focuses on the Apple Iphone craze. It took a lot of planning and research (ok, it actually took me 3 full man-days to research all the avenues). Do give my new domain www.appleiphoneforxmas.com the support. Really need it. And the best part is that google.com has not indexed my new domain. So imagine how new it is.

Anyway, some of you who have read my august posting (which is missing now) knows that I have tried to outsource my article writing.  I was trying to apply the bum marketing techniques.  Through this experience of outsourcing my article writing, I have met some good writers and 1 writer who cheated his articles on me.  Worst part was I was too tired to check after my work and by the time I found out that all his articles were direct copy from other websites, I could feel a boiling feeling inside of me.

Partly, it was because I trusted people’s nature too much and second, I was just too tired to check before I had paid for his works.  IT sucks!  Anyway, I was glad I got to know some good and dedicated writers as well.  This was a lesson learnt in outsourcing your articles.  Ironic, since I am doing bum marketing but I guess I should not be a bum marketer when it comes to checking those articles that are not written by me.

Always always check your articles for duplicates before you pay.  Most likely, I must be one of those nut case who will trust anyone easily.  Even though I had this lousy encounter, I still believe that outsourcing is still important, just need to be a little more cautious.

Bluehost Payout

By the way, before I sign off, for those in Singapore who are promoting bluehost, I just found out that you can specify to them to pay you via paypal, instead of sending you a check.  Even though I wish to receive more checks from bluehost, but the service charge by the local banks just piss me off to find other alternatives.

Almost all of my friends have watched the movie except me. So I pestered my girlfriend to watch with me. It brought back so many memories and though some have said that they did not enjoy transformers, for me, I loved it! No doubts about it.

I have finally completed another year of my annual army training and now I have just 2 more years of reservist to go. I can’t wait for the day when the army gives me the certificate that will declare that I will no longer be call back for army trainings anymore.

For everyone who does not know, in Singapore, all Singaporeans and 2nd generation permanent residents must serve the country for 2 years in the army. And once you have completed your 2 years of national service, you are still required to report back to the army once almost every year, for a total of 10 times. It can be a short 5 day stint, and it can be as long as 3 to 4 weeks of army trainings. For me, I have already attended 8 trainings, and another 2 more years and I will have completed the requirements.

To be frank, everyone will feel irritated to be called back for training but when you are finally back in camp, awaiting for instructions, suddenly there is a feeling of relief as well.

We are always stressful in our work environments as well as our own home, and entering the army seems to take away the stress that you will face in our everyday life. And when you meet all your camp mates, suddenly, we can talk about anything. We refer to conversations that we have in the army as “talk cock sing song”. We can chat about politics, the army, medical, cars, work life, all the funny happenings that we saw during our trainings.

I usually declare myself brain-dead whenever I am required to go back to camp. All the tough army trainings that we may have in the day, we all release the tension at night. We will chat and chat until the wee hours of the morning. Imagine all the topics that we can converse especially since we only get to see everyone once a year.

Anyway, I am finally back to civilization and after a pause to my internet marketing journey, it is time to get back on the road and find my pot of gold.

I was very naive to think that visitors will come straight to my blog and just click on the picture of Newbie Cash Machine and buy. And I thought maybe I did not write the article good enough, so I stopped pushing the product for a while. And as time goes by, and my knowledge improves, I decided to see how what I did wrong for this newbie cash machine.

So i decided to type “ewen chia newbie cash machine” into google and search for it. My article appeared on the first page, but it was on the almost towards the end.

I was pretty happy to see that at least it appeared on the first page of googles. As I happily click on my article, I realised one very*2 important element missing in my article.

As I was reading my article, I realized that there was no link back to my businesspeanuts blog. And when I click on my profile, there was no mention of my blog at all too.

Even when I click on “Contact this CP”, there was no mention of my blog anywhere. Can you believe it!!! I did not every realized this mistake after almost 2 months.

For all the newbies out there, do not make the same mistake I made.

I got 30 page views for this article (and supposedly would get paid 30 cents but associatedcontent does not pay anyone who lives outside of the US). Imagine 30 page views and none of them know my blog. What a waste of efforts in writing. 30 views may be small but it is still traffic and it is wasted.

As I have gathered some good friends (everyone of them are aspiring businessmen and businesswomen, always on the lookout for opportunities) to come on-board with me on this journey, and the funny thing was, I notice some of them are already beginning to form some traits that I have encountered as well. It was like a mirror-image, a reflection of I started my road to internet marketing, and maybe some of the other fellow marketers as well.

I realized that target setting and being focus, being positive very important but sometimes difficult to do, and it boils down to the word “discipline”. Laziness can happen, and I am very guilty of that in many occasions.

But I realized one way how to make myself pump up again, and that will be to see my targets everyday, and start imagining myself already achieving it. And when you open your eyes, something strange always happen. Suddenly you know what you should do, how to achieve and feel the burning passion in you to grab your target regardless of any mental blocks you have in your mind.

The book “The Secrets” woken me up to this point. I realized that I have been using “The law of attraction” to getting my degree, my jobs, my friends and win my girlfriend’s heart too.

But when it came to business, I suddenly have no confidence and I have no focus. I failed to position myself as a successful businessman, thus, there was no passion to follow through any ventures I had and giving up easily when I see difficulties.

So for everyone who is reading this (businesspeanuts group included), imagine yourself already earning your target amount, and imagine yourself spending it, you must really feel the money in your hands. Then open your eyes, look at your targets and start pumping!

Not TRY, is DO IT!

I started experimenting with this website by doing something very simple.

I shall remain login for the whole day. Reason being that whenever you remain login, your picture profile stays on the main page of everyone who just joined or login. Out of maybe 20 visitors, maybe 1 will click on me to find out who I am. Maybe I should have used a avatar that capture attention instead of my photo but heck, I prefer to show myself. Let’s see how many people can I get to vote for me, or come to my blog this way.

The normal way will be to vote for more people, and if they reciprocate, they will vote for you and maybe drop by your blog. I don’t have plans to do that yet. Let’s try this experiment first. I wonder if there is a fixed timing in spicy page that automatically logs you out if they detect that there is no activity.

Results of My Experiment:

On the first 2 days of joining, I did not login but my profile did appear under the new members list so I guess that was how 2 person came to my blog.

And on 25 and 26, I decided to just login to the website and just let it be. Reason being that once you login in, your photo will actually show up on the members last login page. I did not really talk to anyone but I manage to receive 3 comments from fellow members there.  As you can see, june 25, I receive 4 visitors and on june 26, i receive 6 visitors.  And I did not really do much except reciprocate to maybe 3 or 4 people who have voted for me.

As my blog traffic is not very higher, it is pretty easy to track the traffic flowing in.  Basically I know that my traffic mostly comes from www.mybloglog.com, some from www.blogexplosion.com, and www.trafficswarm.com.  And with this new discovery, www.spicypage.com is bringing in some traffic as well.

After reading this article recommended by Mark, I just had to recommend it here. I was totally intrigue about his journey and his success in promoting a niche that is not internet marketing. We need more of such stories.

Jerry Moore was like so many other affiliate marketers who had heard about using Adsense with Clickbank to make a living. But like so many other affiliates, he was going broke.

Then he broke through.

Jerry explains in detail how he turned around from a Clickbank junkie going broke to a successful marketer. He reveals the sites he used, the keywords he used, and every other detail (some that he isn’t too proud of) into a very successful business.

Click on the below link to read his full story. He actually goes into quite detail on how he used adwords to advertise in specific states and he even tells you the niche he was using. I did not validate his article but to me, it provides valuable advice. (Hannie, this article might be of use to you for your Adwords Campaign.)

Seems like I am beginning to have less and less time for blogging.

Reason being:

1 – Preparing a user manual for my friends on blogging for newbies on the internet. If they can understand and learn from the manual, maybe I can use it as bait for a free report or maybe sell it at a very cheap price to get some traffic, maybe some affiliate links as well. (JV anyone?)
2 – Focusing on a niche marketing product with a mastermind group which is pretty interesting but alot of learning to do.

3 – My friend is working on a health fitness product and I shall help him market it out. Another personal challenge on the Internet.

4 – Personal project. I will be setting a list of action plans for a niche market that I find quite interesting and see if it can worked! Now is 25 June 2007, and I shall update everyone with a weekly report and by the end of one month, I shall report my earnings report card.

I shall incorporate “The Secrets” teachings and think positive. A person must always set a personal challenge and fulfill it so that we can move to a higher level of any given profession. Another reason I wrote it here is because since I announce it here, I have given myself a “no excuse” clause to not do anything. So please give me your support and leave some comments.

Recently, I have taken a liking for organic food and its health results as well. In recent years, we are beginning to see a constant demand of living a healthy lifestyle but there are so many tasty (and unhealthy) food, we are losing our battle against illness.

I had high blood pressure for a few years, and it was only until last year, while I was on a salad diet that I lost alot of weight and healthier and more refresh. After that, I stop my salad diet and started on a food rampage again.
